Identiv Debuts ID-Brain Dual-Frequency Inlays

High-performance specialty inlays combine NFC with RAINTM UHF RFID, eliminating the need for multiple tags and reducing operational complexity.

Identiv Inc. has unveiled its new portfolio of dual-frequency inlays for logistics, pharmaceutical, medtech, and retail applications. Labeled ID-Brain, these inlays are based on dual-frequency integrated circuit technology from EM Microelectronic and combine the benefits of NFC and RAIN UHF RFID into a single, efficient solution with the ability to perform both NFC and UHF applications.

As RFID-enabled solutions see increased adoption across various industries, there is growing demand for RFID tags that enable multiple applications and are accessible by corporate (UHF) reader infrastructures and smartphones in consumers’ hands. With their dual-frequency compatibility, Identiv’s new ID-Brain products meet this demand and simplify operations by combining NFC and RAIN UHF RFID into a single IC tag, eliminating the need for multiple tags.

“The launch of our ID-Brain dual-frequency inlays marks a continued expansion of our IoT solutions portfolio,” Identiv Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Manfred Mueller stated. “The ID-Brain product family addresses key challenges businesses face today—inefficiencies in inventory tracking, ineffective loss prevention, and limited consumer engagement—by integrating NFC and RAIN UHF RFID  into a single, dual-frequency tag. With ID-Brain, businesses can streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance both security and customer engagement with a smarter, more scalable RFID solution that’s built to last.”

All ID-Brain deal-frequency products are powered by the second generation of EM Microelectronic’s em|echo-V (article EM4425). The chip integrates a robust crypto suite to cover the use cases when product authentication is a must. It is compatible with ISO/IEC 15693, ISO/IEC 18000-3 Mode 1, NFC Forum Type 5 Tag, ISO/IEC18000-63, EPCTM Gen2v2, and ISO/IEC 29167-10 protocols. All protocols make use of a shared memory and a common IC serial number. This shared memory allows a customer’s specific request to be linked to the product’s supply chain data. With access to information on the purchase status and location of the product, the brand can provide personalized responses to customer requests.

ID-Brain tags are available as dry inlays, wet inlays, or labels and currently come in three form factors: ID-Brain-A912-V1 (10.7 x 74.2 mm); ID-Brain-A893-V13 (25.4 x 48 mm); and ID-Brain-A879-V13 (15 x 34 mm).

ID-Brain tags ensure product authenticity, mitigate fraud, and foster consumer engagement with product authentication, facilitating a consistent omni-channel experience while enhancing supply chain transparency, streamlining logistics, and optimizing distribution tracking.

Identiv’s full-circle RFID-enabled IoT solutions create digital identities for physical objects, enhancing global connectivity for businesses, people, and the planet. Its solutions, integrated into more than 1.5 billion applications worldwide, drive innovation across healthcare, consumer electronics, luxury goods, smart packaging, and more.
